"I aim to annoy and lead your finances destroyed"
Spam is a generated message typically sent via email or SMS in bulk to individual users. The aim for spammers is to either annoy you or try to gain access to your services such as banking details or social media logins.
A majority of spam emails will try to look similar to the real thing such as winning a brand new car and clicking on a link to enter your credit card details which I advice you to not do that.
Most users tend to panic when they see an email from their bank stating their account will be suspended unless they click on a link that I provided on the email.
How do I know if an email is spam or not?
This really relies on you. If you are not expecting an email from someone then it is most likely to be spam. If you are unsure if the email is legit or not then it is best to contact the person or company who sent you the email to verify. This will also help them to be aware of spam bulk emails being sent to other users.
How do I avoid spam messages?
Unfortunately it is completely impossible to avoid spam messages. Email providers such as Office 365 and Hotmail have their spam filters in place however most spam emails can bypass these filters and reach your mailbox with ease.
Most web security programs have an Anti-spam feature and plugin for applications such as Outlook that help add more filtering with your emails. However there is no guarantee that all spam emails will be flagged. So the best defence is to keep a close eye and look out for any suspicious emails. If you continue to receive an email from a specific sender which is fake then you can always block that sender or ask your System Administrator in case you really need assistance.
What to do if I opened the attachment/link?
Run an anti-virus scan and scan your computer and also the file that you have downloaded. You should immediately delete the file first and then run a virus scan to unsure that you are not infected.
If you received a link to a website, most probably it was asking for a login. If you happened to login with your credentials then change your password as soon as possible. If any of your online accounts use that same password then make sure you change it on there too.
